How to Prepare your Orchids for Exhibition
by Nancy Starr
February is the time to start thinking about prepping your plants for display. When a plant has been cleaned up it just expresses its beauty more.
A plant just seems to “show off” when it has been fussed with. Judges like to see clean backbulbs and no dead or broken leaves . It is absolutely essential that the plant be “bug- less” and disease free to be accepted. When presenting your entry please put the pot in a decorative or clean cache pot. Moss is always a nice touch, but isn’t completely necessary.
Show Plant Registration forms will be provided on Friday (if you have multiple plant entries, a list with all their names and parents names will help speed the regristration process).
You can download Sales Forms for your sales plants on our website, by clicking here. Please use these forms for your plants. Members are responsible for filling out their own lists and labels. Your label MUST have a part taped to the pot and a part that can be kept for an accurate reconciliation with your plant list.
Check out your babies and tidy up any that are in bloom and show them to the judges
by Nancy Starr
Volunteers are always needed to “make it happen.” Security, plant hotel, setup/takedown, judging, divisions, raffle table…the list is long. We have been very fortunate to have a solid core of dedicated members who always step up and make the event a success and I hope you will continue to do so.
One easy way to help is to take a handful of postcards (which will be available at the meeting) and leave them with businesses where you trade. Newspaper ads are too costly and we MUST rely on alternate ways to get the word out.
If anyone is on Facebook, Twitter, etc. we would appreciate your sharing our orchid event on your wall! Friend Us!
